  3. HEXCELLS PLUS SERIES

Took me 13 hours to get 100% achievements but I have 999,999,940 levels to go. Cheap and as long as you'd like it to be. It's not a dealbreaker by any means but I would have opted for community designed level sharing instead.Īs with previous games, It kept me coming back. In contrast, random generated levels feel cold and somewhat uninviting. Where the designer tried fooling you with level symmetry, hiding some emotion in the puzzles. Even though Hexcells level are simple, they always feel like it is you against the designer.

HEXCELLS PLUS GENERATOR

This time round we are presented with a random level generator which definitely extends the game but sadly does not escape the dredge facing all random generated content. The base levels start easy enough but the difficulty curve steeps beyond what was comfortable in the first game yet stays bellow the hellish fires of Hexcells Plus.

To deepen the gameplay a bit more, you are sometimes also presented with special rules beside the numbers which frankly, in my humble opinion, make minesweeper look like a joke. This is sometimes mixed in with column markers that do the same, but for a column (picross style). It is a logic game were rules of the levels are defined by numbered brackets (minesweeper style) that give information on whether nearby brackets are false or true. Hexcells is a fairly simple game, much of it employing a combination of mechanics from minesweeper and nonograms (Picross) on a non standard 2D grid.

HEXCELLS PLUS SERIES

Since this feels like a refresh of the series I will copy/paste elements from my review of the previous two and build upon them. The result plays like a much more complex version of Minesweeper with a bit of Sudoku thrown in, but the game is absolutely devious. It feels like a new version of the previous two with new levels and a random generator for even more levels. The game charges you with figuring out which hexagons on a map are blue and which arent, and the way you figure it out is by looking at the numbers in corresponding cells and rows/columns.

Creatures are divided into ranks, with common and 8. More than three hundred Nexomon can be collected in this adventurous game. Creatures must be developed so that they gradually become more dexterous and skilled. The whole idea is really well done, the puzzles are really challenging and satisfying to complete - many of them really require you to think outside of the box and see more than pure numbers there.Hexcells Infinite is probably the absolute puzzle game in the Hexcells series ( Hexcells, Plus). The Nexomon universe is inhabited by marvelous creatures, which the gamer will have to catch. I have to admit, I fell in love with this game. Moving forward, there are more and more mechanics (like blue hexes in a row, or number of hexes surrounding given one in 2 adjacent rows), and the puzzles are bigger and complicated. A big achievement for the game creators! If you try to make a mistake, the game won’t let you, indicating it.

This aspect could be easily overlooked, but it required a big amount of work to make solvable puzzles, that are still challenging. There is no guessing - for each move you have to make, there is definitely a logical next move. For each hex, you decide if it has to be black or blue. Rules are shown by number of needed hexes in a row, but also black hexes are showing how many blue hexes (exact that amount) have to be uncovered next to them. The game is about uncovering hex tiles in a way, that all the rules are valid. It starts just like the predecessor - showing basic mechanics.

HEXCELLS PLUS PLUS

I thought that Hexcells Plus would only be like new, additional puzzles, but without any new mechanics.

I already played Hexcells before - it was an amazing example of a logic game made well. A great extension of an excellent logic game.
